So, for much of our married life, Mike and I had talked about hiking the Appalachian Trail from start to finish. As we have approached our retirement years, our focus has shifted. We still want to spend our time hiking, but have decided that we are more interested in seeing Americana as well as beautiful scenery. Our new goal is to walk across the United States from the east to the west, mostly along U.S. Highway 30 and the “Old Lincoln Highway.” It makes the most sense for us, for a variety of reasons, to do this hike in stretches. Since I (Judy) am not yet retired, we started with local day hikes and will gradually progress to multi-day walks. Once we are both retired, we’ll go out for weeks at a time. Still, we expect this adventure to take six or seven years. So, feel free to follow us on our journey.
