Today was a gift. Sunny and mid 50’s – perfect walking day. Nice to get out after several days of being snow bound. For some reason, 10 miles seemed very easy. We will probably add another mile next time, at least as long as the terrain is flat and we are only walking sporadically.
12/21/13 – Day 3 (10 more miles down).
Our third trek took us beyond the budget motels outside Atlantic City and into the edge of the Pine Barrens. After we left Egg Harbor City, pretty desolate. A warm windy day (believe it or not it hit 70 degrees). Ten miles was not too difficult. I am still trying to find the best footwear, definitely THE most important item.
12/07/13 – Day 2 (and 9 more)!
Our second day walking. Not the prettiest scenery. Lots of budget hotels and diners outside AC. Weather was beautiful but a tad too much wind blowing directly in our faces. We added a mile with no problems, still haven’t hit our limit. We’ll see how 10 miles feels on our next excursion.
11/23/13 – Day 1 (8 miles done)!
We drove 2 cars to AC, leaving one at the shore of the Atlantic Ocean and the other 8 miles away in Absecon, NJ. The weather was BEAUTIFUL and crisp (high 40’s and sunny). A little more wind than we would like but not outrageous. Because it is so flat, the miles flew by. We averaged a 3 mph pace. Glad we started early in the morning, we were home in time for an afternoon football game (which we napped through). A fun maiden voyage – check out our pix.
11/21/13 – We start this Saturday in AC
Okay, so Mike and I start our Walk Across America in two days. We start in Atlantic City, putting our toes in the ocean and then we’re off. Our plan is to walk 8 miles the first day. Should be a realistic goal. We did a test run in October, hiking 43 miles over 4 days, on the Shawangunk Ridge Trail. We finished all four days – a little battered but triumphant. We figure if we can do 4 consecutive days of challenging hikes, 8 miles on flat road surface is within our limits. Stay tuned!
